Dragons' Nest by GabrielWigren Dragons' Nest by GabrielWigren
Yet another one! Don't know how long I've been working on this one, over a week at least. Played around with different filters and stuff. I'm a sucker for details, though I had to call this one done at some piont.

Skyrim, Scotland and Halo Reach where some of the inspirations I had for this painting. Not really a story for it though if you have one let me know.
Critique are highly welcomed!

Great imagery, has just the right balance of light and dark imo,and really like the small waterfall.Scotland is also an influence of mine in my writing, trying to convey to the reader the wide scope of what I see in my mind, regarding the different lands...

its fantastic! the story i pull is of a dragon slayer who had in the past been very famous. many years later ( after he married and had children [some of whom are still wee] on a farm in his wife's village) a noble comes looking for him and wants him to take up the dragonslaying mantle again in defense of his kingdom. he refuses on the grounds that he is older and has a family. the noble says this is not a choice and threatens his family and village. the dragonslayer agrees to keep safe his loved ones. the noble takes away his family and the dragonslayer must prepare. its been long years since fighting, and his armour doesn't fit. faced with little choice he goes on without it. after many days of travel he comes to the nest. the dragons there know his scent and remember him. they have eggs of their own now and it has been long since they have feared him. the dragonslayer realizes he can't kill them; he is too old and out of shape to survive, but also cant find it in his heart to kill parents and children when that is what he is representing. he climbs down the mountain in sadness and overwhelming defeat. the dragons see the change and watch his descent. the dragons know the reasons in his heart and feel the need to change as well. the larger of the two dragons begins to make his way to the dejected warrior, a plan forming in his mind. THATS MY STORY! LOL!

Love this picture ,A small critique would be if the dragon wasn't there and the viewer have to think what the slayer was going into.apart from that it is stunning.

Its wonderful! I just have one question though, is this a complete painting with only brushes or is this a called "manipulation", where you have added different pictures to make all the effects?

I use photos as texture, it speeds up the process. It's great for many things. Most of this is painted though. Tack;)

It's not critique, but a suggestion I guess... The dragon back there looks more like a ghost or a shadow of the past, so it would've looked more like a full story or at least more overwhelming, if there were more of these dragon-shadows all around the mountains! Not too much though..

But really, I don't know what was your idea or intention to begin with, so I don't think I'm right with my words here.
The work looks great! That's the main point)

I think the painting would've felt to busy. But your suggestion is a possibility as well depending on the goal that is. I felt that my drawing skills really restricted me back then resulting in some thing that are not that good.

The dragon needs some (very little detail adding), looks like a cut out compared to rest of image.

also have a tangent from the forground stone tower plinth thing hitting the mountain where the dragon sits- would be best moving plinth a few pixels across so it does not line up directly with the mountain crag.

The water fall also seems a bit odd - looks nicely done but if i catch it in my eye it leads me out the picture not toward the subject matter which i assume is the chap and the dragon.

Thanks for the critique. Yea the dragon feels a bit of. The composition is not that correct, I can see that now. Didn't know much about composition before when I made this one so therefor some elements is a bit of and work against the painting. Thanks.

Wow ... love this. Very atmospheric and dark. Although I think you don't need dragon in back to distract from mystery of what's up there. ;)
